Tragedy: Two died when a power line fall in Ogwashi Ukwu community in Delta state




It was tale of tragedy when Ogwashi Ukwu, a community in Delta state, which had hitherto stayed without electricity from the public power supplier for years had light restored in the community. The community has reportedly been without light for eight years.

According to Stephen Okwumbu who posted this on his Facebook wall, he wrote, sad, just after four days we celebrated  (the) long awaited NEPA light in Ogwashi Ukwu, this morning tragedy struck. Two died and one hospitalized"

Narrating further on what happened, Mr Okwumbu said that high tensioned wire gave way probably as a result of lack of maintenance considering the fact they have been in darkness for years, fell and shock some persons in the town. He said that three persons were involved in the unfortunate accident, one of the victims died on the spot, the other died on the way to the hospital in Asaba the Delta state capital, while the third person is currently receiving treatment at a general hospital in Ogwasi Ukwu.

In her comment also, another eyewitness Chinelo Uwaechie Danielle said that the person that was hospitalized lives behind her house and it's only by the grace of God that she survived. She said that she stayed for close to 20 minutes on one spot as a result of the electricity shock. She said the victim touched the zinc on her roof which unkown to her have live current on it as a result of the fallen wires.

Even animals were not left out in the tragedy, two goats according to the report were roasted alive when they came in contact with the live wires.
