I had just left work this morning at Maitama opposite MTN while approaching my car, I saw some AEPB staffs arresting and chasing down hawkers. My friend was sitting in my car waiting. While approaching my friend, we started conversing and I said in this exact words.
"Maybe most of them no get this kind of business sef" addressing it to my friend while I approached him. Suddenly 2 police officers approached me and asked me out of my car, I stepped out and they asked me to follow them.
I asked to lock my car first which they let me. Then they asked for my phones, I asked why and one of them hit me with an iron rod. I entered their bus which had 3 other hawkers, some officers and AEPB staffs.
The AEPB staff, Lawal Hassan asked for my key, and I again asked why, and the 3 of them started punching and slapping me like a thief. They slapped me till I could barely hear them while the punches kept coming.
The drive round wuse and finally to their office at area 3. The officers I was taken to said I was obstructing them and I was going to be charged. Lest I forget, they also accused me of taking pictures and videos of them. They checked my phones and found nothing.
They kept striking on obstruction.
I had managed 2 use my spare phone to cantact my supervisor while in their bus.
He came and they wanted me to accept my offense and pay a fine of N5000.
My supervisor pleaded wit me and I complied and wrote an apology letter.
Addressed to their H.O.D. Today I was lucky to have received just beating even though am at the hospital for check up due to the punches that resulted in dizziness and migraines. My friend was lucky not to have been assaulted. Many don't get lucky.
