A 21 year old Inanda resident was apprehended after he and three accomplices robbed a woman of her ATM Card on Moss Street in the Verulam CBD a short while ago.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to the scene after receiving a call from a member of public reporting a mob of approximately 50 people beating up a man.
Upon arrival a woman explained that while using the ATM at a service station she was distracted by the suspect while his accomplice stole her bank card.
As the suspects ran towards a brown Toyota Corolla she screamed for assistance. Onlookers managed to apprehend one of the men while his accomplices fled in their getaway vehicle.
The mob demanded that the suspect hand over the bank card and when he informed them that it was not in his possession they began to assault him. The suspect was severely injured during the assault.
He was placed under arrest and handed over to Police for further investigation.
