What would have been a major tragedy was averted in Owerri, the state capital of Imo state when a three-storey building beside popular Newton hotel located along the Umuguma hospital road still under construction collapsed in the early hours of today.
The building reportedly collapsed around 12am with the sound heard as far as control post round-about and the vibration from the resulting collapse shaking nearby houses. The collapse was so bad that the building didn’t just collapse but most of the building sank into the ground.
It was reliably gathered that the uncompleted building which was at the roofing stage was under the supervision of a foreigner.
The site has been sealed off by the Imo state government.
