Priest held for rape after victim delivers a baby.

An Indian priest was arrested on charges of raping a teenager in southern India after the 16-year-old victim gave birth to a baby, police said Tuesday.

Father Robin Vadakkumchery was arrested late Monday after the teenage girl gave birth in a surprise delivery, alleging that the priest had assaulted her at a church-run school in southern Kerala state.

“The girl accused the priest of sexual assault and he was arrested after being on the run for two weeks,” Prajish Thottathil, a senior police officer in the victim’s home town told AFP.

The victim and her family were unaware of the pregnancy but visited the hospital after she complained of stomach pains on February 7, the officer said.

A child rights charity reported the secret delivery to the police leading to an investigation that revealed the alleged involvement of the priest.

The family had abandoned the newborn at an orphange, police said.

Both the baby and the mother have now been sent to a government-run welfare home.

Shocking: 8-year-old girl who escaped road accident shot dead moments later

An 8-year-old Texas girl who escaped harm in a car accident early Saturday was shot and killed just moments later.

De’Maree Adkins was asleep in the back seat of her mother’s car around 1 a.m. Saturday as they drove through southwest Houston. According to reports, the mother and daughter were just a few minutes from home when a Pontiac Grand Prix blew through an intersection and collided with their vehicle.

De’Maree’s mom, Toyia Thomas’ first instinct was to make sure her daughter was OK. The pair was fine until a third vehicle pulled up next to her Honda and a woman got out of the car and opened fire on Thomas and her daughter.

“I don’t know who it was and I don’t know why she was shooting,” Thomas said.

Thomas says she didn’t realize her daughter had been shot until she attempted to remove her from the vehicle.

“I told her to stay with me, stay with me,” Thomas told us, breaking down in tears. “Her body just went limp.”

De’Maree was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Between five and seven shots were fired, investigators say. Whether the shooter was targeting Thomas’ vehicle or someone in the Grand Prix involved in the crash remains unclear

Man seen "swimming" in gutter in Imo.

My curiosity led me to see for myself how this man at Njemanze street, scoops dirts from gutters with his bare hands. I was shocked the more when I saw him swimming inside the gutter with ease in exchange for any paltry sum that
will come from his numerous unsolicited employers.

I nearly blamed Buhari for what this man does to earn a living until I was told that he drinks ‘kai kai’ the way I drink water.

Former Google executive Amit Singhal has left his new job at Uber for not disclosing an allegation of sexual harassment at his former employer, a charge he has denied.

Uniosun may expel more than 4000 students for investing school fees in MMM

The management of the Osun State University has said 4,410 students of the institution may lose their studentship for owing the fees running to over N2bn.

The university, in a statement made available in Osogbo on Monday by its Corporate Affairs Unit, said it was sad that over 4000 students had yet to pay their fees just two days before the deadline.

The university said it observed that many of the students, who were owing school fees of between two and 11 semesters had collected the money from their parents and guardians but had either “invested” the money in the failed MMM scheme or diverted same to other purposes.

The university, however, stated that students who could not meet up with the deadline and, who did not want their studentship terminated might apply in writing to the school authorities to grant them leave of absence for the current semester with a sworn affidavit, pledging to make payment before resumption from the leave of absence.

I cannot handle my husband's high sexual libido, woman tells court.

An estranged wife, Sola Bamisile, 30, on Monday told an Ikole Ekiti Customary Court that she could no longer bear her husband’s strong sexual urge.

The petitioner alleged that her husband, Bayo Bamisile, constantly beat her whenever she refused him sex.

Sola told the court that within five and a half years of their marriage she had given birth to four children.

She also alleged that the respondent failed to care for her and the children.

According to her, none of the children is in school.

“I always quarrel with my husband because none of our children is in school; there is no proper care for me and the children.

“My husband is always concerned about having sex with me whenever he has taken palm-wine.

“He has not even paid my dowry,’’ she said.

The petitioner, however, told the court that her husband and his family members had been  reaching out to her to reconsider her divorce move.

“My husband and his family have been coming to me to change my mind about the divorce.

“He has also written a letter of undertaking to be of good behaviour,’’ she said.

The petitioner tendered the letter of undertaking in court as exhibit.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the letter was admitted by the court.

The respondent denied the allegation of constantly fighting his wife and failing to take care of his family.

He however admitted not paying the dowry.

The president of the court, Mrs Yemisi Ojo, ruled that the plaintiff should monitor the respondent’s  behaviour for three months to ascertain if he had  changed.

She also ordered that the man should enrol his children in school before the next adjourned date.

Mob action: man burnt to death for stealing car battery in Calabar.

Paul Ifere wrote on his Facebook wall.

The photos are disturbing! Viewers Discretion is adviced

A Car Battery thief was caught and burnt to ashes this morning at Yellow Duke. A resident who reported the incident
this morning said that the young man has gone out to steal batteries from parked cars.

However, it has not been confirmed that whether the young man was caught red handed. This incident will now raise the killing by jungle justice to about 9 in the month of February alone. How a once peaceful state is gradually becoming a hot bed of criminal activities has kept citizens and residents of Calabar at awe.

It is more worrying that residents do not have confidence in the police force again.
It is sad. We must not burn criminals. Let us trust in the police force. Let us also use the whistleblowing arrangement of the
State government to report criminals and their activities.

Please let us be civil. Report criminals to the police.
