Xenophobic attack! South Africans mob kill and burn a Nigerian man.

Clement Ebuka Nwosu has been burnt alive by a mob in the latest xenophobia attack in South Africa.

The Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Union in South Africa, Habib Miller, said the victim, a native of Enugwu-ukwu Njikoka in Anambra and an upholsterer in South Africa, was attacked and killed by a mob in Rustenburg, North West Province. .

Miller said the victim was murdered in cold blood over his accent and habit, which the mobsters supposedly found offensive. “The mob descended on him like a common criminal with all sorts of dangerous weapons in the presence of South African police officers.

Eyewitnesses say the victim beckoned for help from the police to intervene and help him, but they turned a blind eye. When Ebuka could no longer persevere, he ran for safety; the mob chased and caught him, poured petrol on him and set him ablaze,” he said. He later died at Job Shimankane Hospital.

I am pained by this dastardly act nothing because he is my brother but the way and manner he was killed with tacit support from the South African police. This is the area i am most disappointed in.

This is one death too many and it's about time the Nigerian government do the needful. You cannot continue to kill Nigerians like rats without any official inquest and without any attempt by the state to weigh in. South African policecannot be complicit in the killing of our people over there and here in Nigeria, our own police and security agencies are deployed to protect them and their interests. No serious government can tolerate what South Africa has done to Nigerians in recent years. Not all Nigerians in South Africa are criminals. Even criminals are tried and convicted through the judicial system.

Ebuka, may your gentle soul rest in peace and may the good lord console your mother.. Amen

"My brother who has no trace of crime all his life became a victim of incessant killings by   Nigerian police yesterday. A country where an average, easy going and law abiding citizen is not safe. Even though the angry mob killed the police man instantly, yes the blood filled face beside the lifeless body of my dear brother is the police man responsible for his untimely death. we are not satisfied at all. Our brothers life worth more than this.
Why must police who is suppose to be our friend be killing us on daily basis.
Mr Kingsley Aguguo rest in perfect peace .
Dee Kingsy rest till we meet to part no more."

One killed, many injured as masquerades invades church during service in Anambra.

At least one person died on Friday while over 22 others sustained various degrees of injury when masquerades in their numbers invaded the Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The masquerades, who were said to be celebrating a festival known as Uzo Iyi, invaded the worship ground, beating up members and also attempting to whisk away the spiritual director of the centre, Rev Fr Emmanuel Obimma.

According to reports, three of the masquerade members were arrested by operatives of SARS upon complaint from the church that they were extorting worshippers coming to the church. The leadership of the church called in the SARS operatives to help their internal security to protect worshipers, but upon arriving, the operatives arrested three masquerades who were involved in the extortion, but their colleagues attempted to stop them from taking the arrested masquerades away, prompting SARS operatives to shoot sporadically into the air before whisking the masquarades away.

Personal Assistant to Fr Obimma, Francis Okoye, who spoke to journalists, said a priest, Rev Father Henry Nnajiofor, a seminarian and 28 others were injured during the attack on the worshippers.  It was however gathered from some worshipers that an unidentified person was feared dead during a stampede caused by the attack.

Okoye said: “The normal masquerade activities in Uke, to the best of my knowledge, ends by 6pm but as at 8pm on Friday, the masquerades were still parading at the entrance route of Uke Adoration ground, extorting money from the our members and robbing others on the guise of masquerade festival.

“As at 8:30 pm, we started receiving information that group of masquerades were attacking our members, inflicting bodily injuries on them as a result of severe flogging. They flogged some of them, stabbed some with their weapons including machete, while others were robbed of their mobile phones and other valuables.  “We quickly contacted the SARS office to assist our Adoration security that could not handle the situation at that point in time. When SARS arrived in an hour later, they arrested two masquerades but on their way back, the youths blocked the road and insisted that the masquerades must be released. That was when SARS officials fired shots on the air to disperse them.  “When SARS left, they regrouped again and this time came in their numbers to the Adoration premises, beating everybody including the elderly, the sick and pregnant women. Our Adoration youths, in defence, pursued them and arrested one other masquerade who stayed in the Adoration ground with us until this morning when we handed him over the official of the Nigerian Army that came for our rescue,” he narrated.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Anambra State, ASP Nkiru Nwode confirmed the incident but denied that the masquerades also attacked the police officers from SARS.  She said the command arrested three of the suspects and is currently investigating the cause of the incident

North Korea set to stop all nuclear activities.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has said his country will suspend all missile tests and shut down a nuclear test site, state media say.

"From April 21, North Korea will stop nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles," the Korean Central News Agency said.

Mr Kim's decision comes a week before he is due to meet his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in. North Korea has defied international sanctions over its weapons programme.

In November, it said it had successfully tested a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile that could reach the whole of the continental United States.

The test drew swift international condemnation. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said Pyongyang had shown "complete disregard for the united view of the international community".
