Want to try this thumb-sized watermelon. Don’t doubt your eyes when seeing these tiny cutie watermelons which are sold at a supermarket in Shanghai.


With green flesh, the thumb-sized watermelon is only 3 centimeters long. A pack of 125 grams of theses watermelon costs 29.9 yuan (about 4.4 US dollars).

The vine grown fruit tastes like cucumbers with a tinge of sourness and can be eaten with its peel.

The plant’s scientific name is Melothria scabra Naudin. It is native to Mexico and Central America, where its vernacular names include cucamelon, mouse melon, Mexican miniature watermelon and Mexican sour cucumbe
